  • Incorporate more storage to help declutter the space

The brief

Robin and Linda came to us with the hope of putting some life back into their tired en-suite. Since they moved into their Banchory home a little over 35 years ago, the bathroom had never been renovated and was in need of a full refresh from its dated design. The couple were already well informed about what was possible with their bathroom and the type of look they wanted - even coming prepared with measurements - but had received unappealing designs from another supplier as they shopped around. With their clear vision for the space, it was pretty straightforward for us to transform it into something more modern and usable.

One of the main issues the couple were experiencing with their current en-suite was a lack of available space for storage, resulting in the unit gradually becoming more and more cluttered with toiletries. This attracted them to a German unit by our bathroom supplier Pelipal, which features innovative storage solutions to better organise their belongings and keep the space tidy. They also voiced a desire to upgrade their average shower for something a little more luxurious that would be in keeping with the contemporary design they wanted for their new en-suite.

The process

Due to the layout of the space, there were a few extra considerations to make, as there always is when a sloped roof is involved! The new bathroom unit was installed under the VELUX window, in the same place as the original to allow for maximum space and light. This also meant the WC wall could remain free for the finishing touches, with a mirrored LED cabinet and open shelving for additional storage that the couple were looking for.

The shower space was extended across the full length of the wall, with a handy seat incorporated which worked well under the sloping roof. Not only did we focus on the look of the space, we also corrected the water pressure with a pump and added a second head to make the everyday experience of a shower a little more luxurious. This meant removing their traditional bidet feature, but the couple agree it was a fair compromise for the finished look!

The result

The en-suite now looks like it's been taken straight out of a luxury hotel! With a little reshuffle of the layout, the impressive walk-in shower is now the main focal point of the en-suite, with the space being far more usable than the original. The large sink unit with its smooth running drawers offers much more storage for the couple, with a stylish mirrored unit and open shelving offering even more storage space which they were lacking before.

The neutral grey colour scheme which the couple selected creates a very contemporary look and feel, with sleek LED lighting to complement the modern design and create that wow factor. The couple are delighted with the high quality of the Pelipal units and are thrilled that none of the features look cheap or built-in - a look they were adamant they wanted to avoid.

“Our experience with North East Interiors was first class, Lee and his team were impeccable, especially Paul who was most consistently on the project. His work was great and there is nothing we could fault with the whole process or end product. My husband and I have been loving our new en-suite especially the integral sink unit which has ample space. When I had a shower before I was always left wondering if there was shampoo still left in my hair because of the poor water pressure, but the updates have made showering an absolute pleasure - we couldn’t be happier with the results!”
