Our projects: The Clifford's bathroom refresh

Client: Mr and Mrs Clifford

Location: Aberdeen

Highlights:

  • Create a light and airy space that suited the couple’s new lifestyle

  • Disguise safety features needed throughout the bathroom

  • Incorporate extra storage

The Brief

Having originally worked on the Clifford’s previous bathroom approximately 16 years ago, our team were drafted in once again to help renovate the current bathroom into a bright, airy and functional space.

Despite loving their previous bathroom the Cliffords were forced to update their bathroom due to health and aging reasons. This meant that our clients needed a bathroom that was not only practical and easy to use but also had a touch of timeless elegance, without drawing too much attention to the safety features incorporated throughout.

The Process

Initially Mr Clifford visited the showroom to discuss whether we could add features to the bathroom without having to renovate the whole room but it quickly became apparent that would leave too many compromises in the design to make the room function effectively. A complete project ‘wish’ list was created to start the design from a blank sheet of paper.

We focused on the layout at first to make sure the room would be functional and meet the needs of the client who now had some mobility issues and managed to incorporate details such as grab bars, seating and ease of access.

Once these boxes were ticked, we then focused on the aesthetics of the room and concentrated on a clean and timeless look by using marble effect tiles for the walls with a dark floor which helped to tie the room together.

The Result:

The end result is a bright and sleek space which is not only beautifully designed but also extremely practical with the necessary safety features present including a folding seat, anti-slip tray and grab bars - all helping to accommodate the Clifford’s new health needs. In addition, the toilet was also adjusted to maximise the movement and space throughout the room.

The neutral grey and white colour scheme selected by the couple creates a polished and contemporary feel, a design that will stand the test of time. The silver accents included throughout oozes luxury and makes for the perfect change when compared to the Clifford’s previous peach and cream coloured bathroom.

“Due to aging disability issues we were required to refurbish our bathroom, NEI renewed our bathroom 16 years ago and we were very pleased with the finished design. We then decided to arrange a meeting with them to see what was available for our disability requirements and to design a bathroom to accomodate all our needs.

After a few very friendly and informative meetings with Barry to confirm the final design, we went ahead with the new bathroom project. We can honestly say the friendliness and expertise that was shown by the design team, the efficiency and the hard work of all the tradesmen was excellent and surpassed all our expectations.

We were very pleased with the final refurbishment of our bathroom. They gave us everything that we required and more. We certainly would have no qualms in recommending North East Interiors.”
